Hormones are responsible for what?

formation of male and female sex characteristics, which may contribute to difference in health concerns experienced by sexes.


Can excessive/deficient levels of hormones lead to health problems?



Roles of oestrogen in bone density

Keeps bones strong and maintains bone density. in menopause, levels decline resulting in bone fragility


How is oestrogen linked to cvd?

Protective factor, as it is less common in females than in men. May influence fat distribution, as pre menopausal women are pear shaped and others are apple shaped usually.


Roles of testosterone?

o Male sex hormone (and small amounts in women)
o Responsible for sex characteristics, sperm production and risk taking behaviour


Hormone production is caused by

• Genetics, particularly the sex chromosomes
• Other plausible things like diet
