What do complementarians believe?

A

Wife’s role is to support the husband by managing the family home and raising the kids, this is seen as equivalent value to working outside the home.

What do egalitarians believe?

A

Men and women have equal responsibilities and duties towards God, other humans and nature
- They have equal obligations in terms of bringing up the kids, working together and using their talent and abilities complementarily.

What is the view on women in churches?

A
  • Churches can specify the sex of minister they want
  • RCC won’t allow women to become bishops or priests because:
  • Early church leaders were all men, Jesus’s men were all disciples
  • Priests represent Jesus who was a man
  • Mass is Jesus’s last supper and women can’t do this
  • Tradition is men.

  • Jesus came to break down social barriers not reinforce them
  • Jesus was following the tradition of the time, if it was today he wouldn’t do that
  • God created women in his image as well as men.

What does the Bible teach about the upbringing of children?

A
  • Parents are required to discipline their children and help bring them up as obedient, well-behaved young people.
  • Also as Christians
  • Usually is RCC and Anglican Church the child will have infant baptism and be raised a christian, attending Sunday schools and incorporating Christian teachings into daily life, e.g. grace before a meal
  • By 1 1 they will decide if they want to be confirmed or not.

What is the Amish process of upbringing children?

A
  • Amish can only marry Amish
  • Women under the authority of man
  • Amish provide schooling for the Amish
  • School ends at 14 and they are taught practical jobs
  • Man is in charge of spiritual life and family, also by providing for the family by working
  • Women have a domestic role, and take care of kids.
  • At 16 Amish kids leave to the real world to see if they want to be baptised as Amish community members.
