New criminology

The Neo-Marxist theory comes from the book 'the new criminology'
Beliefs include-
Society is made up of conflict
Capitalism is unfair and creates inequalities
Inequalities are the main cause of crime

Structural determinism

New criminologists criticise marxists and functionalists for STRUCTURAL DETERMINISM
their theory simply that individuals are passive and have no choice

Labelling

Individuals label their own situations
For example
If a person blames the latest cut backs in unemployment benefits for their behaviour there is a high possibility they will blame their criminal activity on a lack of money
However, if a person thought they were unemployed due to their own back of skills they may be less likely to commit crime

Fully social theory of deviance

1 the wider origins of the deviant act
2 the immediate origins of the deviant act
3 the actual act
4 the immediate origins of the social reaction
5 wider origins of deviant reaction
6 the outcomes of social reaction on the deviants further action
7 nature of the deviant process as a whole
