Keeping the side of the tip or toe 1/3 of the working end of the instrument in contact with the tooth surface.



Selecting the Correct Working End (Anterior) 2 Visual Clues

1. Terminal shank will cross over midline (wrap)

2. Working end curves around tooth surface you’re working toward.


Steps for Determining Correct Working End

Establish correct patient, operator, and light positioning.
Utilize modified pen grasp and employ intraoral fulcrum as close to area as possible.
Place side of tip 1/3 on the direct distal of the tooth.
Pivot (stand) up on fulcrum.
Stay still- don’t move-freeze
Observe terminal shank- should be parallel with distal of the tooth.
