Q

What treatment increases plasma levels of Van Willebrand and Factor VIII complexes?

A

Q

Von Willebrands Factor

What is it?

A

PROTEIN - PLATELETS

A PROTEIN that plays a key role in blood clotting.

When you have low levels of this protein or it doesn’t work as it should, PLATELETS cannot stick together properly nor attach themselves normally to the blood vessel walls when an injury has occurred.

Autosomal Dominant inherited

Unlike hemophilia, which mainly affects males, von Willebrand disease affects males and females and is usually milder.

* Because factor VIII circulates in the body attached to vWF, a decreased amount of factor VIII can also mean a decreased amount of vWF.*

Q

Difference between PT and PTT test?

A

EXTRINSIC - INTRINSIC

Prothrombin Time (PT) which measures the integrity of the EXTRINSIC system as well as factors common to both systems

Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT), which measures the integrity of the INTRINSIC system and the common components.
