Q

How does gender affect participation in sports?

A

Men are more likely than women to participate in sports (51% compared to 26%). This is partly to do with stereotyped views that women can’t play sport, or that they shouldn’t because they’ll get too sweaty and it’s unfeminine, or that they are discriminated against

Q

How does ethnicity/race/religion affect participation?

A

People from ethnic minority backgrounds are less likely to participate in sport, especially women.
This could be due to racism, their culture not allowing them, religion preventing them from taking part on certain days, or the clothes they have to wear making it harder.
