Male Repro - Histo Flashcards
What is the process of Spermatocytogenisis?
Spermatogonia –> Spermatocytes —> Spermatids
2 steps of Spermatocytogenesis…
Spermatogonial step = Mitosis
Spermatocyte step = Meiosis
What is the spermiogenesis process?
(Spermatid phase) - maturation process: spermatids to spermatozoa
Temp in the scrotum?
34 instead of 37 (body temp)
What 2 types of cells are found -in the seminiferous Tubules?
Steroli cells (aka Supporting cells or Sustentacular cells).
Spermatogenic cells Such as:
- Spermatogonia (Type A dark & pale, Type B)
- Primary spermatocytes
- Secondary Spermatocytes
- Spermatids
What cells produce testosterone?
Leydig cells
What are 3 types of Intratesticular ducts?
- Straight tubules (Tubuli reti) = Short, straight, tubules lines only with sertoli cells. *at the very end switch to cuboidal epithelium.
- Rete testis = Interconnected network of channels lined with cubodail epithelium or low columnar epithelium. Cells have single apical cilium & few, short apical microvilli.
- Efferent ductules = lined with pseduostratified columnar epithelium.
What are the 3 excretory ducts?
- epididymis
- Ductus deferens or Vas Deferens = lined with Pseudo colmunar epithelium with sparse stereo cilia.
- Ampulla = dilated area where epithelium is thicker and more folded.
- Ejaculatory duct = protion of the ductus deferent in prostate gland; after the seminal vesicles join; no muscular layer. - Urethra
- Prostatic urethra
- Membranous urethra
- Spongy urethra or Penile urethra
What are the 3 male accessory glands?
- Seminal vesicle
- Prostate gland
- Bulbourethral gland
Describe the Seminal Vesicles….
p Two highly tortuous tubular glands line with simple columnar epithelium or Pseudo columnar , rich in secretory granules; smooth muscle in inner circular and outer longitudinal arrangement. Thin folds seen in lumen to increase secretory surface area; joins with ampulla of ductus deferent to form ejaculatory duct.
Describe the prostate gland…
- collection of 30-50 tubuloalveolar glands embedded in a dense fibromuscular stroma.
- Covered by fibroelastic capsule
- contains corpora amylase or prostatic concretions
- empties into prostatic urethra.
Describe the Bulbourethral glands….
(Cowpers gland) = compound tubuloalveolar glands.
- lined with mucous-seceting simple columnar epithelium.
- located in urogenital diaphragm and empty into the proximal part of the penile urethra.
What is are the 3 cylinders of erectile tissue in the penis?
2- dorsal paired cylinders called the corpora cavernosa
1- ventral cylinder called the corpus spongiosum which surrounds the spongy urethra.
What is the purpose of the male Accessory glands?
- Produce Seminal fluid (The medium in which sperm leaves the male body.
What is the shape of the nucleus of the stroll cell?
Triangular
