Chapter 8.1 Photosynthesis Flashcards
Autotroph
An organism that creates its own energy. Ex. Plant
Heterotroph
Organism that eats other organisms to get energy. Ex. Anteater
Photosynthesis
Process that plants use to capture sunlight and use it to convert Water and Carbon-dioxide into sugar, and oxygen.
ADP
Adenosine Diphosphate
The ATP molecule with only two phosphate bonds
ATP
Adenosine Triphosphate
ATP is the basic source of energy for a cell. Composed of 3 phosphate bonds that when broken release energy.
What is different between ATP and ADP
ATP is the main source of energy, and has 3 phosphate bonds
ADP is just a “discharged” ATP, with only 2 phosphate bonds
5 activities that require ATP
Active Transport Provides energy for motor proteins Powers cilia and flagella Protein synthesis Responses to chemical signals on cell surface
What are the 3 parts of ATP
Adenine, Ribose, Phosphate
What is the function of ATP
To provide energy to the cell
Photosynthesis Equation
6CO2+6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2
What are the Photosynthesis Reactants
Carbon-dioxide, water, and energy
