Photosynthesis occurs in 2 stages. Name each stage and where they take place.
Light dependent happens on the Thylakoids membrane. Light independent happens in the stroma, outside of the thylakoid.
The two reactants of photosynthesis are carbon dioxide and water. In which reaction is each used?
Water is used in Light Dependent.
CO2 is used in Light Independent.
What is the purpose of the light dependent reaction?
To create two unstable high energy molecules, and release Oxygen into the atmosphere.
What happens to the high energy electrons that are produced in photosystem 1?
They go on to aid in the creation of NADPH from NADP+
What is the name of the enzyme in the thylakoid membrane that is used to produce ATP?
Phosphate
Where does the Calvin cycle take place?
In the chloroplasts.
Look in your book at the end of Chapter 8 section 3 and explain the 3 factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis.
Temperature, some enzymes that aid Photosynthesis do best at 0 - 30° C
Light intensity, the less light the slower the electrons are exited
Water, since water is necessary, a shortage can slow or stop Photosynthesis.
What powers the rotation of the ATP synthase molecule?
H+ ions flowing from high to low concentration
What splits off mid-cycle in the Calvin cycle to create sugar molecules?
2 3-Carbon molecules
What is the overall purpose of the Calvin cycle?
To create high-energy sugars!!!!!! Yay!
