What´s the difference between a living system and a nonliving thing?
- All organisms are composed of cells, with a plasm membrane.
- Organisms grow and develop.
- Organisms regulate their metabolic processes.
- Organisms respond to stimuli.
- Organisms reproduce.
- Populations evolve and adapt.
Eukaryote cells
They contain a variety of organells enclosed by membranes, including nucleus.
Prokaryotic cells
Microscopic organisms classified in two larger domains: Bacteria and Archaea. They don’t have nucleus or other membrane-enclosed organelles.
Levels of organization
Chemical level - molecular level - cellular level - tissue level - organs level - organ system level - organism level - population level - community level - ecosystem level - biosphere level.
DNA function
The information carried by the DNA that makes up the genes has many functions including providing the “recipes” for making all the proteins required by an organism.

Is a group of organisms with a similar structure, function and behavior.
Taxonomic classification of organisms
Species - Genus - Family - Order - Clase - Phylum - Kingdoms - Domain.
Clade
A group of organisms with a common ancestor.
Kingdoms
Two prokaryotic kingdoms: Archaea and Bacteria. Four Eukarya kingdoms: Protists, Plants, Animals and Fungi.
Scientific theory
It is an integrated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is based on a number of hypotheses, each supported by consistent results from many observations and experiments.
Hypothesis
A testable explanation for observations or phenomena.
