16
Q

how does gallstone ileus come about

A

eroding action of gallstone forms a (cholecystoduodenal) fistula between gallbladder and duodenum
it then travels to terminal ileum and blocks ileocaecal valve

17
Q

what is the treatment for gallstone ileus

A

urgent laparotomy - SB enterotomy to remove stone

interval cholecystectomy in 3 months
