These units are not necessarily purple k, but may be dry chemical with a sodium bicarbonate base. Sodium bicordonate is not as effective on methanol fires as purple k. It will be necessary to determine, before use what type of dry chem the unit contains.

• charge unit by opening valve on nitrogen cylinder
• open nozzle until flow if dry chem is noted.
• close nozzle and move to point of operation

How do u put out a flammable liquid spill fire with purple k?

Approach upwind holding nozzle at 45 degree angle to the ground. Stop 10-12’ from front edge of fire. Direct stream 6 inches ahead of flame edge. Use a side to side sweeping motion, with each sweep slightly wider than the near edge if the fire. Extinguish the small fire at the back edge of the spill aiming directly at the base of the flame. Don’t raise the nozzle to chase the fireball.

LPG fires shouldn’t be extinguished unless immediate fuel shut off is possible. LPG vapors are heavier than air. Open the water nozzle first and adjust the fog position. The dry chem operator should then open the dry chem nozzle and aim it at the fuel source. Close the valve to stop fuel flow. Dry chem operator stands by in case of reflash.
