•performer is just starting to understand basic tasks
•progress is made up of a lot of trial and error

What are the characteristics of the associative phase?

•performer understand the basic tasks
•they then work on developing more complex skills and perfecting basic skills
•still involves some trial and error

•performer is skilled and able to perform in competitive situations
•low anxiety levels when performing
•a lot of intrinsic feedback

What type of guidance would be used with a cognitive performer?

A lot of visual guidance so they get a feel for the task.
Manual/ mechanical guidance so they understand what is required to perform the task and Lower risk of injury

Less visual guidance and more verbal to correct any smaller mistakes
Visual guidance is still used when demonstrating more complex skills

Some verbal guidance to correct small mistakes
A lot of intrinsic feedback as they have a good mental picture of what the skill should look like
Some visual feedback like watching videos of themselves to spot mistakes
