What is the function of AIS?
To collect collate edit and disseminate aeronautical Information necessary for the safety and efficiency of air navigation or interested parties.
This includes CAA, ANSPs, aircraft operators, aircrew, flying clubs and other aviation related organisations.
To receive post flight information.
Relies upon accurate raw data provide by authority responsible - they do not actually write any of the information.

The main functions of the International NOTAM Office (INO) are:
- Preparation and issue of civil and military NOTAM via AFTN;
- Receiving/transmitting information from/to international NOTAM offices;
- Dissemination of AIS data to enable the production preflight information bulletins (PIBs)
Notice to Airmen(NOTAM)
- Originated and issued promptly when information is of a temporary nature and short duration or, when significant permanent or temporary changes of long duration are made at short notice.
- Distributed to stations via AFTN (AeronauticalFixed Telecommunications Network)
How are NOTAMs issued to stations?
Via Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunications Network (AFTN).
NOTAM Coding
Each allocated a series - identified by a letter and 4 digit number followed by a stroke and a 2 digit year so that addresses can check continuity.
The type of NOTAM identified by suffix letter; list the different types of NOTAMs:

new Information
NOTAMC-
cancels previous NOTAM
NOTAMR-
replaces previous NOTAM
If a NOTAM is suffixed with the letter “N”, What does it mean?

Cancels the previous NOTAM.
If a NOTAM is suffixed with the letter “R”, What does it mean?
Replaces previous NOTAM
Pre-flight Information Bulletins (PIBs)
- Edited version of a NOTAM (plain language).
- Information to cover first leg of flight.
- Distributed to airfields via AFTN.
- Duplicated at airfields to allow collection of pilots.
