Chapter 5 Probability Distributions Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 4 assumptions for a binomial distribution?
A
- each outcome is independent of the other
- probability is constant from trial to trial
- each outcome is classified as “event of interest” or “not event of interest”
- we are dealing with discrete variables
2
Q
What is the difference between AND/OR in a probability distribution calculation?
A
AND = multiply the probabilities together
OR = add the probabilities together
3
Q
What is the major difference between a Binomial and Poisson distribution?
A
Binomial - will give you more than one piece of information
Poisson - will give you an average in an area of opportunity
