Tourism. Definition der World Tourism Organization (UNWTO):

A

„Tourism is a social, cultural and economic phenomenon which entails the movement of people to countries or places outside their usual environment [for less than a year] for personal or business/professional purposes. These people are called visitors (which may be either tourists or excursionists; residents or non-residents) and tourism has to do with their activities, some of which involve tourism expenditure.

  • Outside the ordinary environment

  • For personal or professional purposes
  • As visitors (tourists or day-trippers)
  • Tourist activities may include tourism expenses

  • Direct gross value added of € 105.3 billion (3.9% of total gross value added, more than engineering or retail)
  • For the eighth consecutive year, the number of guest arrivals (178.2 million, + 3.8% in 2016, 21% international tourists) and overnight stays (459.5 million, + 2.7% in 2016, 18% in international tourists)
