What is turners syndrome?
A chromosomal condition that affects female development
How many females does it affect?
1 in 2,200
What does the condition involve having?
Only one complete X chromosome in each cell, the second is either missing or incomplete
When does mosaic TS exist?
Where one copy of the X chromosome is missing or incomplete in some but not all cells
When does prenatal lymphedema occur?
Where fluids leak into tissues causing swelling, in the neck hands and feet
What are the physical effects?
Short stature, down-slanting eyes, short webbed neck and a broad chest
What is the main deficiency?
Non functioning ovaries which results in girls not developing breasts properly or not having periods and being infertile
What medical complications can arise?
Heart conditions, high blood pressures, vision/hearing problems
What does treatment usually consist of?
Administering growth hormones
