What does it mean to denature
To destroy characteristic properties (ie shape)
What happens to enzymes at a higher temperature
To a point the enzyme and substrate molecules move faster and collide more often to a point the higher the temperature the higher the rate of reaction
If the temperature is too high what happens to the enzymes
The amino acid chains in the protein unravel and denature the active site therefore the enzyme can no longer bind to the substrate so reaction rate decreases this is irreversible
A fact about ph affecting enzymes
Every enzyme has a different optimum ph
How can the change in ph affect the reaction of an enzyme
The amino acids react which makes the enzyme unfold and denatures the active site
Why does each enzyme have a different optimum ph
To suit their different conditions ie pepsin is in the stomach where it’s high in acidity so the optimum ph is 3
How does the concentration of the substrate and enzyme affect the enzyme (2ways)
Both higher rate of concentration the higher rate of reaction
They’re also limited by each other when all of them are bonded if there’s one left over there’s nothing left to bind to do the molecules will not increase
