What are the components of the Air Data Inertial Reference System(ADIRS)?

A

Three ADIRUs each divided into two units:

  1. Air Data Reference (ADR) Unit - processes pitot-static information
  2. Inertial Reference (IR) Unit - processes altitude, position, wind Data
  3. ADIRU 1 - gives info to CAs PFD and ND
  4. ADIRU 2 - gives info to the FOs PFD and ND

Q

What’s the function of the three Display Management Computers (DMCs)?
(Pic)

A

The DMCs process signals received from the sensors and computers within the aircraft for display on the DUs

  1. DMC 1 provides info to the CAs, PFD, ND, and the E/WD
  2. DMC 2 provides info to the FOs, PFD, ND, and the SD
  3. DMC 3 - serves as a backup to either DMC 1 or DMC 2

Q

What are the types of failure messages?

A
  1. Independent - malfunctions that do not affect any other aircraft system/components:
    A. Presented in the left column of the E/WD
    Memo section
    B. Affected system is underlined
    C. Failure title is presented right after the
    Affected system.
  2. Primary - malfunctions that do affect other aircraft systems/components:
    A. Presented in the left column of the
E/WD memo section in a box
    B. Affected system is underlined similar
    To independent failures
  3. Secondary - systems affected as the result of a primary failure
    A. Presented in the right column of the
    E/WD memo section in amber

Q

What are the indications of a Display Unit (DU) failure?

Pic

A
  1. A failed DU will flash, go blank or be distorted

2. DUs are not monitored by the FWCs, so there will be no ECAM messages

Q

What are the indications of Pumps and Valves on the System Display(SD)

A
  1. Pumps: presented as a square
    A. Inline green - green vertical
    Line indicates pumps is on
    And pump pressure is normal
    B. Cross line green - green horizontal
Line indicates the pump is off in
    Accordance with normal automatic
    Logic
    C. Cross line amber - amber horizontal
Line indicates the pump has been
    Manually selected OFF
    D. LO - indicates the pump is on, but pump
    Pressure is low
  2. Valves - presented as circles
    A. Inline green - green line connecting to
System indicates the valve is open
    B. Crossline green - green line NOT
Connecting to the system line indicates
    The valve is closed
    C. Crossline amber - the valve is stuck
Closed when its being commanded to
    Open
    D. Inline amber - the valve is struck open
When it’s been commanded to close
    E. Diagonal amber - diagonal line indicates
    That the valve is in-transit

Q

Explain the function of the STATUS page

Pic

A
  1. Located on the SD - provides a summary of the aircrafts operational status and capabilities as it relates to an existing malfunction/s
  2. Displayed by -
    A. Pressing the STS pb on the ECAM
    Control Panel
    B. Automatically when FLAPS 1 has been
Selected in the approach phase of flight
    (Provided that a malfunction/s continues
    To exist)
    C. Automatically as part of the ECAM
    Non-normal procedure. The status page
Is the last page displayed when
    Sequencing through an ECAM non
    Normal procedure

Q

What are the functions of the SWITCHING panel?

Pic

A
  1. Allows the pilot to change the data sources that supply the Display Units (DUs)
    A. ATT HDG - selects IRU 3 for attitude and
Heading information when IRU 1 or 2 fail
    B. AIR DATA - selects ADR 3 for pitot static
Information when ADR 1 or 2 fail
    C. EIS DMC - selects DMC 3 when DMC 1
    Or 2 fail
    D. ECAM/ND XFR - transfers the SD (lower
ECAM) information to the CAs or FOs ND
    Screen

Q

What’s the function of the CLR, RCL, and T.O CONFIG pbs on the ECAM control panel.
(Pic)

A
  1. CLR pbs -
    A. Used to clear failure
    Messages and sequences
Through the SD pages during an ECAM
    Non-normal procedure
    B. With multiple failure messages displayed
Pressing the CLR pb will remove (clear)
The first message and all it’s associated
    Action steps
  2. RCL pb -
    A. Used to recall failure messages
Previously cleared by the CLR pbs
    B. If there are no cleared messages
“NORMAL” appears on the E/WD memo
    Section
    C. If held for more than 3 seconds, the
    E/WD displays any CAUTION messages
That were canceled by the EMER CANC
    Pb
  3. TO CONFIG -
    A. Used to test the Takeoff Warning sys
    B. Simulated the application of takeoff
    Power
    C. Generated warnings associated with the
    Aircraft not correctly configured for
    Takeoff
17
Q

What’s the function of the EMER CANC pb on the ECAM Control page?
(Pic)

A
  1. For level 3 (warnings) ECAM messages -
    A. Used to cancel:
    1. Continuous Repetitive Chime(CRC)
    2. MASTER WARN lights
  2. For level 2 (Cautions) ECAM messages -
    A. Used to cancel:
    1. MASTER CAUT lights
    2. The E/WD ECAM CAUTION messages
From the E/WD memo section for the
    Remainder of the flight, unless
Recalled (RCL pb) and all FWC
    Warnings associated with that
    Specific malfunction
    3. The canceled ECAM Caution message
Is recorded and listed on the STATUS
    Page under the title CANCELLED
    CAUTION
    4. Canceled CAUTION messages may be
Recalled by pressing the RCL pb for 3
    Seconds
18
Q

Will a level 3 (MASTER WARN) be removed from the E/WD memo section when the EMER CANC pb is used?

A

No it will not
