Q

How can something lead to excessive production of a hormone

A
  1. Cells produce more hormone than normal
  2. Due to up regulation of genes
  3. Synthesising more hormone/proteins
  4. Other tissues could be stimulated to produce more hormone than normal

Q

Suggest three improvements to this method that would increase the validity of the slides produced

  1. Select a blade
  2. Cut Heliamphora tissue
  3. Select best pieces
  4. Place on slide
  5. Add cover slip
A
  1. sharp blade (should be selected) so slide is thin enough that individual cells are visible / resolution is high
  2. Use a microtome for slicing pieces of tissue (thinly) so slide is thin enough , individual cells are visible /resolution is high
  3. Select thin(nest) slides to ensure maximum light can penetrate sample
  4. Wet mount- prevents dehydration / distortion of tissue
  5. Squash slide- easier to see individual cells / allows light to penetrate tissue more easily
