Q

What are contents of the right lung root?

A

R pulmonary artery
R pulmonary veins
R main bronchus
Bronchial vessels, autonomic nerves and lymph
Note: bronchus to upper lobe bifurcates before lung root as does artery that supplies it

Q

What is the course of L pulmonary artery?

A

Arises from RV. Attached to under surface of aortic arch by LA. Spirals over L bronchus to enter hilum

Q

What is the course of R pulmonary artery?

A

Passes below carina, anterior to oesophagus. Gives off branch to upper lobe prior to entering hilum.

Q

Describe the fissures of the lung?

What is there purpose?

A

Oblique - extents surface of hilum dividing into superior and inferior lobes
Horizontal (R lung) - passes from anterior oblique fissure to seperate wedge piece (middle lobe).
Provides slippery surface to allow for easy movement and expansion

Q

What is the blood supply of the bronchial tree?

A

Arterial blood supply from brachial arteries (2 on L, 1 on R). Supplies bronchial tree down to respiratory bronchioles at which point pulmonary artery supplies alveoli with deoxygenated blood giving them all but O2 which they already have in abundance

Q

Describe the lymph drainage of lungs?

A

Runs towards hilum, along bronchi and pulmonary arteries. Hilar nodes lie just within and just without the lung.
