What is the current treatment recommendation for JIA?

A
  • Methotrexate 10-15mg/m2/week as first line DMARD.

GI side effects in 12%
Liver transaminase and haematological disturbances occur and need to be monitored.

  • Etanercept is a tumour necrosis factor blocker given subcutaneously which has been shown demonstrable improvements.

O=oral ulcers
A=arthritis
P=photosensitivity, pulmonary fibrosis

B=blood cells

I=immunologic (anti-Sm, anti-dsDNA)
N=neuropsych
