Unit 7 - Behaviour and Ecology Flashcards

1
Q

Two steps to show physiology’s role in ringdove productive behavior

A
  1. Male begins courting; bowing and cooing
  2. Testosterone readies male for this behaviour
  3. Sight of male doing this causes females pituitary gland to produce FSH
  4. Causes her ovaries to produce eggs and release oestrogen to bloodstream
  5. Male & female construct a nest and copulate
  6. Progesterone in both sexes causes birds to incubate the nest
  7. Prolactin causes crop to grow
