Culturally Different

A

Those members of society who cultural understandings and backgrounds are different from one another and from the dominant culture.

A

The process of diminishing the value, importance, contributions, or attributes of of a category of people.

A

The existence of a wide variety of cultures and subcultures represented within a society.

Caucasians of Northern or Western European origins. Predominantly protestant, and who hold the majority of political and economic power in society.

A

A category of people distinguished from the dominant society on the basis of distinctive and identifiable cultural components, including language, religious preferences, customs, and behaviors. They also identify themselves as distinct from dominant culture.

A

The sum total of a society’s knowledge of the world , values, beliefs, language, norms, and material projects.

White Ethics

A

Caucasians with origins other than Northern and Western European. Many came to the U.S as immigrants during the 18th and 19th century. Many still hold and value their ethnic identity but do without social cost.

Racial, Ethic Communities

A

Collections of persons from common racial or ethnic backgrounds who share common cultural interests. Same may choose to set themselves apart from the mainstream culture in order to preserve some or all of their collective identity. Religious communities such as the Amish or enclaves such as “Chinatowns” fall into this category. More common are people who hold a collective identity and work together toward common goals. They may or may not live in common areas or neighborhoods.

A Category of people distinguished by identifiable inherited physical characteristics that distinguish them from other groups int he society. They many also be members of distinctive ethnic backgrounds.
