Weapon Safety Rules

A
  1. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
  2. Never point at weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.
  3. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
  4. Keep your weapon on safe until you are ready to fire/Know the condition of your weapon at all times.
  5. Know your target and what is beyond it.

M4 Function Check AFTER IT IS CLEAR AND SAFE, (MAGAZINE REMOVED.)

  1. On safe, pull charging handle to rear and release.
  2. Pull trigger on safe, hammer should NOT fall.
  3. Switch to “Semi”, pull trigger and HOLD to rear listen for hammer to fall.
  4. Rack charging handle, release trigger listen for sear to reset.
  5. Switch to “Auto”, pull trigger and HOLD to rear listen for hammer to fall.
  6. Rack charging handle, release trigger, NO sear reset should be heard.
  7. Clear and safe

M203 steps in a safety function check w/out dummy rounds

  1. Clear and safe
  2. Cock, squeeze trigger (Firing pin should release)
  3. Hold trigger to the rear, cock, release trigger and then squeeze trigger (Firing pin should release)
  4. Check safety on both safe and fire with trigger (Launcher must be cocked before safety can be placed on safe)
  5. Move barrel forward and back to check barrel stop/ latch function.

M500 steps in a safety function check

  1. Clear and safe
  2. Place on safe, slide fore-end forward
  3. Attempt to position fore-end to rear (should be locked forward by action bar lock)
  4. Press action bar lock; slide fore-end back and forward (operation should be smooth)
  5. Squeeze trigger (should not move and hammer should not release)
  6. Position safety to fire; squeeze trigger and hold to the rear (hammer should release). Slide fore-end back and forward (hammer should not release)
  7. Keeping trigger depressed and without depressing action bar, try cycling (should not cycle)
  8. Slowly release trigger (should hear audible click when sear resets, hammer should not release)
  9. Place on safe

  2. Place on SAFE; loosely holding cocking handle try to fire weapon, weapon should not fire
  3. Return cocking handle forward, ensure it locks
  4. Place weapon on FIRE
  5. Squeeze trigger, bolt should go forward
  6. Attempt to place weapon on SAFE (it should NOT go)
  7. Squeezing and holding back trigger, pull cocking handle to the rear and release (3 times) ensuring bolt does not lock to rear
  8. Function check complete
