1
Q

Why must blood flow clockwise?

A

Valves

2
Q

What creates the venous pressure?

A

When the heart pumps there is a shift of blood from the venous side to the arterial side, the volume of blood that is transferred will increase the pressure on the arterial side which creates the venous pressure

3
Q

What does flow equal when blood is being pumped?

A

flow = change in pressure/resistance

4
Q

Why will a change in arterial pressure for a given change in volume be much higher than the venous side?

A

Arterial vessels are much less distensible
Veins have a 19 fold increase in compliance (thus 1mmHg decrease on the venous side will increase the arterial pressure 19x)

5
Q

Why isn’t mean systemic filling pressure affected by arterial resistance?

A

The amount of blood on the arterial side is not enough to cause an appreciable effect
