A

Rum-runners brought in alcohol from Mexico and Canada
Speakeasies were opened-32,000 in New York alone in 1929
Moonshiners distilled their own alcohol
98 alcohol related deaths in 1920, 760 in 1926
130 gang murders from 1926-27, down to al Capone

Why weren’t they punished? (Prohibition)

A

Gangsters bribed police officers
Prohibition Commissioner John Kramer and 3000 agents started working in 1921
They were on low pay and there wasn’t enough so they were easily bribed and prohibition failed

Seven members of Bugs Moran’s group of gangsters were lined against the wall by 4 men disguised as police officers
Al Capone was in his Florida mansion at the time and nobody was charged

What was the Teapot Dome Scandal?

A

In 1922, Albert B. Fall leased the teapot dome land to his friend Harry Sinclair for $400,000 dollars when it was meant to belong to the navy. He then leased the Elk Hills land to Edward Doherty
When Harding died in 1924, he was arrested for a year and had to pay a $100,000 fine, it was wrong for him to take money, also had to resign.
