Briefly Explain Regional Realism 1855-1900?
Depicts everyday lives and activities of ordinary people in south. Criticised US society. Regional dialects- mostly south, gave them a voice. Often has accents.
Briefly explain Realism?
Representation of reality, particularly of middle-class life. Often in the countryside.
Briefly explain Naturalism?
Extreme realism, non-middle class focus- dregs of society. Biggest difference from realism was deterministic nature- Darwinism. Often in a city.
Briefly explain Social Realism?
Represents reality of world live in -Social consciousness. It exposed psychological realism of socially elite.
Briefly explain Southern Renaissance 1900-1940s?
Exposed racist southern myths about black inferiority, approached theme of difficult history for black people in south. No longer glorifying the confederates (who ultimately wanted to keep slavery).
