1
Q

M and L sides (2)

A

M (tibial) collateral ligament (MCL)

L (fibular) collateral ligament (LCL)

2
Q

P side (2)

A

oblique popliteal ligament

arcuate popliteal ligament

3
Q

intrinsic ligaments (4)

A

anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
transverse ligament of knee
posterior meniscofemoral ligament

4
Q

A side (5)

A
patellar ligament
M longitudinal patellar retinaculum
L longitudinal patellar retinaculum
M transverse patellar retinaculum
L transverse patellar retinaculum
5
Q

What are the extracapsular ligaments of the knee?

A

M (tibial) and L (fibular) collateral ligaments
oblique popliteal ligament
arcuate ligament

6
Q

What are the intracapsular ligaments of the knee?

A

A cruciate ligament

P cruciate ligament

7
Q

Why are the ACL and PCL “intracapsular?”

A

they are w/in the joint capsule

  • *however - not w/in the synovial membrane capsule ==> extrasynovial**
    • synovial fluid is between the condyles and tibial plateau but not w/in the intercondylar eminence where the ACL and PCL attach
8
Q

What motions does the MCL resist?

A

valgus force

L tibial rotation

9
Q

What motions does the LCL resist?

A

varus force

limits excessive L tibial rotation

10
Q

Which ligament is more mobile?

A

LCL –> bc MCL is attached to M meniscus

11
Q

What motions does the ACL resist?

A

A translation of tibia on femur

hyperextension

12
Q

What motion does the PCL resist?

A

P translation of tibia on femur
