innervate smooth muscle of:
- viscera
- intraocular muscles
- heart
- salivary glands

oculomotor, facial, glossopharyngeal, vagus

special visceral efferent (SVE)

innervate skeletal muscles derived from branchial arches

trigeminal, facial, glossopharyngeal, vagus, accessory

general somatic afferent (GSA) (somatic sensation)

conduct impulses from:
- skin
- skeletal muscle spindles

trigeminal, facial, glossopharyngeal, vagus

special somatic afferent (SSA)

conduct impulses from:
- retina
- auditory and vestibular apparatuses

optic, vestibulocochlear

- viscera
- BVs

- taste buds
