1

L wall

lower parts of obturator internus
obturator fasciae

2

roof

I surface of pelvic diaphragm

3

floor

skin of perineum

4

What separates perineum into A urogenital triangle and P anal triangle?

imaginary line connecting M and L ischial tuberosities

5

perineal membrane

tough fibrous sheet
stretches between ischiopubic rami
extends A almost to pubic symphysis
extends P to ischial tuberosities
separates urogenital triangle into deep and superficial perineal spaces
forms platform for attachment of cavernous bodies of external genitalia

6

superficial perineal space

potential space bounded above by perineal membrane and below by superficial perineal fascia (Colle's fascia) - extension of membranous layer of superficial fascia (Scarpa's fascia) on abdominal wall

contents:
- bulbocavernosus
- ischiocavernosus
- superficial transverse perineal muscle
- deep perineal branches of internal pudendal vessels and n.
- MALES: root of penis and proximal spongy urethra
- FEMALES: clitoris and its muscles; vestibular bulb; greater vestibular
glands

7

deep perineal space

bounded I by perineal membrane and S by pelvic diaphragm
contents:
- part of urethra and I part of external urethral sphincter
- A recesses of ischioanal fat pads
- VANs to penis or clitoris
- MALES: membranous part of urethra; bulbourethral glands; deep
transverse perineal musclel
- FEMALES: compressor urethrae; urethrovaginal sphincter; proximal
urethra; smooth muscle associated w/ perineal body

8

perimeter of perineum

pelvic outlet:
- pubic symphysis
- ischiopubic rami
- sacrotuberous ligaments
- coccyx
