In Jewish culture, what did people usually eat?

A

People mostly ate bread or fish. On special occasions, or if you were rich, you would eat meat. People also ate fruits, nuts, wine and water.

A

Most houses were made out of clay and were one room. Rich people had stone houses with multiple rooms.

A

A house usually had a chest for storage, a basket or wood contained for measuring grain that doubled as a table and lamps. There was usually a communal stove.

A

Common jobs were farmers, fishers, shepards and trades.

In Jewish culture, how were slaves treated?

A

Slaves were treated somewhat fairly under the Law of Moses. Roman laws said slaves must be set free after seven years. Most Jews couldn’t afford slaves.

A

Samaritans, women, the poor, weak and the unclean were treated unfairly.

A

Brides would marry as soon as they could physically have kids (about 14) and grooms were usually 20.

A

The husband was the leader of the family. His wife would call him lord or master. Children were his property.

A

Meals were an outward sign of unity and friendship. They were a time to socialize beyond their own people.
