1
Q

What is the corwn covered in:

A

enamel.

2
Q

Label the tooth with neck, crown and root:

A
3
Q

What is the root covered in:

A

cementum

4
Q

What is the cervical line?

What are its alternative names:

A

The crown and the root join at cervical line

Neck, cementoenamel junction

5
Q

What are the 4 components of the tooth:

A
  1. Enamel
  2. Dentine
  3. Pulp cavity
  4. Cementum:
6
Q

Describe the pulp cavity and it position:

A

Pulp cavity is the inner part of the crown & root of the tooth. It has a chamber and a root canal (s) with an apical foramen.

7
Q

Define the cementum and it position:

A

a thin layer of bony material that fixes teeth to the jaw. It covers the dentine of each root of tooth within the jaw.

8
Q

The enamel of the crown & cementum of the root usually meet close to the___________

A

Cementoenamel junction (this junction also called cervical line).

9
Q

Label the the tooth with the main 4 components, as well as the bifurcation of the root and apical foramen.

A
10
Q

Define Anatomical Crown

A

the part of the tooth that is covered by enamel.

11
Q

Through time does the height of the anatomical crown change?

A

no, we say it’s heigh is constant, but attrition and other physicla wear can change it.

12
Q

What is the clinical crown?

A

The part of the anatomical crown that is visible in the mouth above the gingival margin, so imagine when your on clinic its the part of the crown u can see.

13
Q

What determines the height of the clinical crown?

A

the location of the marginal gingiva (the edge of the gum)

14
Q

Describe the height of the clinical crown:

Why is it like this?

A

change over time

due to the gingival recession.

15
Q

Label the occlusal surface on a permanent posterior tooth:

(top of molar)

A

LOOK AT LOWER DIAGRAM

cusp ridge

cusp tip

fissure

marginal ridge

16
Q

Crowns can have what features?

A
  1. incisal edges (e.g. incisors have this edge)
  2. cusps and ridges (mountain peaks) -e.g.molars
  3. fissures and pits (the valleys) -e.g. molars
  4. crown margin (Cervical line)

CAN YOU SPOT THESE ON THE DIAGRAMs

17
Q

How are roots different from one another?

A

different in shape, curvature, number and individual /fused

18
Q

What fixes the root portion of the tooth to the upper and lower jaw?

A

alveolar bone.

19
Q

What is the aveolar bone?

A

part of the upper & lower jaws

20
Q

What does the Aveolar Bone contain?

A

maxillary (upper) and mandibular(lower) teeth.

21
Q

What are The four tooth types?

A

Incisor • Canine • Premolar • Molar

22
Q

Which teeth are anterior teeth?

A

incisor

canine

23
Q

What is the name of the 2 groups these 4 teeth types can be diveded into ?

A

anterior (front)

posterior (back)

24
Q

which 2 teeth types are posterior teeth?

A

premolar

molar

25
Q

Give the postion of the incisors and number in each jaw:

A

Incisors are the teeth present at the front part of the mouth There are four incisors in each jaw

26
Q

For permanent dentition, give location of canines and number in each jaw?

A

Canines are located next to the incisors There are two canines in each jaw

27
Q

For permanent dentition, give location of premolars and number in each jaw?

A

Premolars lie next to the canines There are four premolars in each jaw

28
Q

For permanent dentition, give location of molars and number in each jaw?

A

Molars lie next to the premolars at the end of the jaw There are six molars in each jaw

29
Q

Define Human Dentition

A

The teeth that are located in the upper and lower jaws in human

30
Q

Define Maxillae

A

Maxillae: The upper jaw

31
Q

Define Mandible:

A

Mandible: The lower jaw

32
Q

Define Maxillary Teeth:

A

Maxillary Teeth: The teeth located in the maxillae (form an arch)

33
Q

Define Mandibular Teeth:

A

The teeth located in the mandible

34
Q

As humans, we have——–sets of teeth during our lifetime

A

3, jk jk we hav 2

35
Q

What are the 2 types of dentition called?

A
  1. Deciduous dentition () The first set of teeth we get. These are commonly referred to as baby “milk” teeth.
  2. Permanent dentition () The second set of teeth we get. These are commonly referred to as adult teeth.
36
Q

How many teeth are in the Deciduous dentition?

A

(20 teeth)

37
Q

How many teeth are in the Permanent dentition?

A

32 teeth

38
Q
  • What and how many of each teeth type are there in the Deciduous dentition:
  • How many quadrants are there?
A

20 teeth in total=8incisors+4canines+8molars) •

Each quadrant has five teeth •

No premolars

39
Q
  • What and how many of each teeth type are there in the Permanent dentition:
  • How many quadrants are there?
A

• 32 teeth in total= 8incisors+4canines+ 8premolars+12molars) •

Each quadrant has eight teeth
