A

Laws implemented by the Southern States in order to control freed slaves. It restricted AAs rights and allowed those that attacked AAs to go unpunished.

  1. Provided shelter, food, hospitals and education for AAs

  2. Flurry of AA political activity- not seen again until late 1960s
  3. Civil Rights Acts of 1866 and 1875 did little as states drew the line at integration
