An agreement signed by the Catholic Church and Hitler that the Catholic Church would not interfere with politics and Hitler would leave the church alone.

Those who opposed to Nazi interference joined this which was set up outside of Nazi control

Gangs of working-class youths who opposed Nazism and the war (believed in freedom)

Edelweiss Pirates met up to play music, go on walks and hand out leaflets, WRG also handed out leaflets but also graffitied messages

Women doctors, lawyers and teachers were expected to leave their jobs, rewards for large families (gold for 8, silver for 6, bronze for 5), women’s organisations set up by Nazis (e.g. Nazi Woman’s League)

Birth rate from 1933-39 increased, number of employed married women fell in early 30s, 6 million women joined women’s organisations
What did the Nazis want their youth to be like?
- Control youth, make them loyal to Nazis

How did Nazis achieve loyal youth?
Schools: new subjects (e.g. Race Studies), only German history taught, boys taught mostly science, maths, military drills, girls taught needlework & domestic science
Hitler Youth: girls joined League of German Maidens & taught domestic jobs, boys joined Hitler Youth & taught rifle training etc
