  1. Power Distance: How much society members expect equal distribution of power
  2. Uncertainty Avoidance: How reliant a society or group is on norms, procedures and rules to maintain order
  3. Humane Orientation: How important society views fairness, altruism, generosity, caring and kindness
  4. Collectivism I: (Institutional) How much value is placed on the collective distribution of resources and collective action
  5. Collectivism II: (In-Group) How much pride, loyalty and cohesiveness people tend to express in their organisations or families
  6. Assertiveness: How assertive, confrontational or aggressive people are with others
  7. Gender Egalitarianism: How much value the society places on gender equality
  8. Future Orientation: How regularly do people behave in ways that are typically thinking of the future, such as delaying gratification, investing and planning.
  9. Performance Orientation: How valuable society finds individual performance within a group

The Six leader styles that were established from the 21 leadership scales are…

  1. Performance-oriented - (“charismatic/value-based”): This style is steeped in core values of the organisation, and regards high standards, decisiveness, and innovation while seeking to inspire people around a vision and driving them to perform.
  2. Team-oriented - This style places great value on team cohesiveness and a common purpose, through instilling pride, loyalty, and collaboration among members.
  3. Participative - Group members are encouraged to be part of the decision making and implementation, and leaders value delegation and equality.
  4. Humane - Patience, support and concern are the hallmarks of this style, which stresses compassion and generosity.
  5. Autonomous - This style is characterised by an independent, individualistic, and self-centric approach to leadership.
  6. Self-protective (and group-protective) - This style aims to gain both group and individual security and safety by employing behaviours that are procedural, status-aware, and “face-saving.”
