What are the functions of the salivary gland? Give 2.

A
  • Grind up food.

- Produce Amylase to start breaking down Carbohydrates in the mouth.

What are the functions of the stomach? Give 3.

  • The Stomach pummels/churns the food with its muscular walls.
  • The Stomach produces the protease enzyme, pepsin.
  • The Stomach produces Hydrochloric acid which kills bacteria and provides the protease enzyme with a pH of 2 so it can work.

The Liver produces Bile which neutralises stomach acid.

What is the function of the Gall Bladder? Give 1.

A

The Gall Bladder stores Bile before it is released into the Small Intestine.

  • Produces Protease, Amylase and Lipase.

- Releases these enzymes int the small intestine.
