Q

Describe the refractive index of fibres

A
  • high RI = acts as a converging lens
  • low RI = acts as a diverging lens
  • only slightly converge and diverge = BECKE LINE
2
Q

Define the terms ‘woven’ and ‘knitted’ fabrics

A

WOVEN - composed of two sets of yarns by interlacing the yarn

KNITTED - interlocking series of loops of one or more yarns

                    1. Warp = runs left to right
                    2. Weft = runs up and down
3
Q

Define the term ‘yarn’

A

Continuous strands of fibres, filaments or material

4
Q

Define the terms ‘natural’, ‘manufactured’ fibres and ‘denier’

A

NATURAL FIBRE - any fibre that exists as a fibre in a natural state

MANUFACTURED FIBRE- any fibre derived from the process of manufacturing

DENIER - weight in grams of a 9000m of fibre
