What is the purpose of tactical ventilation

A

To release products of combustion to prevent fire spread. It can reduce temperatures and improve visibility

A

The removal of heated air, smoke or other airborne contaminants from a structure, and their replacement with a supply of fresher air

What is self ventilation

A

The fire damages the structure of the premises. For example, a roof collapse, or a window break

What is automatic ventilation

A

The operation of pre-installed vents. Examples are powered ventilation systems or roof lights

What are the principles of tactical ventilation

A

The high level vent should be down wind of the low level vent.

The high level vent should be made FIRST.

If conditions create a potential backdraught, the compartment should be ventilated from outside the building.

The outlet should be covered by firefighters in BA with charged branches.

A

Carried out away from the fire. It improves access and escape routes.

What is offensive tactical ventilation

A

When ventilation is applied directly to the fire compartment. This is to limit fire spread and improve conditions in the compartment.

The outlet MUST be covered with a charged branch.
