A
cuts/grazes
shin splints
tennis elbow
strain
sprains
breaks (open, close)
2
Q

what are some immediate preventions of injuries ?

A
clear hazards
play at correct level
know an obey the rules
develop the correct technique
fit enough
warm up and cool downs
use good equipment
wear correct kit
3
Q

where do injuries occur?

A

intrinsic factors- relate to the physiological make up of the individual
extrinsic factors - relate to those injuries derived from external sources

4
Q

what are the intrinsic factors ?

A
age
sex
body weight and composition
muscle weakness
poor flexibility
5
Q

what are external factors?

A
training methods e.g. poor technique
training volume e.g. over training
inappropriate training surface
inappropriate technique
inappropriate clothing
environmental conditions e.g. rain ,cold)
6
Q

what are the sports rehabs available?

A

hyperbaric chambers
oxygen tent
ice baths
doms

7
Q

what are hyperbaric chambers ?

A
pressurised
o2 rich - 100%
reduces recovery time
reduces swelling
stimulates cell to repair 3 x faster
improves immune system
8
Q

what is an oxygen tent?

A

low o2 environment
increase haemoglobin and red blood cells
does not speed up healing process
helps maintain fitness levels

9
Q

what happens during ice baths?

A

last approx. 10 minutes
blood vessels tighten (vasoconstriction)
drains blood out
takes away lactic acid

10
Q

what happens after the ice bath?

A

new blood invigorates muscles with o2

helps cells function better

11
Q

what are doms?

A

delayed onset of muscle soreness
usually follows eccentric contractions
caused by little tears in the muscle
consist of warm up and cool downs

12
Q

why do people cool down?

A

maintain working heart and breathing rate to aid the delivery of o2 compared to stopping , removing more co2 and lactic acid and prevents blood pooling
