A BioPsychoSocial disease of brain:

  • episodic loss of control
  • continued use despite consequences
  • an element of compulsion

the cycle of nicotine addiction?

  • Nicotine binding , increase dopamine release
  • Dopamine decrease between cigarettes , causing withdrawal symptoms of irritability and stress
  • Chronic exposure to nicotine desensitization
  • Withdrawal symptoms without nicotine (4-6h), as nicotine levels decrease, and receptors become resensitized
