1
Q

What do many atoms have?

A
  • One or two electrons in their outer shell

- They are keen to get rid of them, as they will then only have full shells left

2
Q

What happens when they lose these electrons?

A
  • They are left as an ion
3
Q

What do Sodium, Potassium and Calcium have?

A
  • One or two electrons
4
Q

What have Groups 6 + 7 got?

A
  • They have outer shells which are nearly full

- Oxygen + Chlorine are examples

5
Q

Describe what Group 6 + 7 want to do

A
  • Gain electrons to full shell up and become ions
6
Q

Which elements are most likely to form Ions?

A
  • Those in groups 1, 2, 6 + 7
7
Q

What are Groups 1 + 2?

A
  • Metals, which lose electrons to form +ve ions or cations
8
Q

What happens when any of these cations form/join with anions?

A
  • They form Ionic Bonds, which are only elements at the opposite sides of the periodic table
