A

A

A

Someone who has a job but is also paid to compete. They usually work full time and compete in their spare time. Some only work part time to train and compete more.

A

Someone who competes in amateur competitions but receives illegal payments through loopholes such as sponsorship deals, scholarships, exaggerated expenses and a token job.

A

Qualification from 2002. Diplomas in sport equivalent to GCSEs or A levels. vocationally based rather than exam based.

What are GCSEs?

A

They are an important step towards higher education. High passes are needed to study at higher levels.

A

Next level of qualification and divided into AS and A2. Points gained is used to apply to university.

What are sport performance awards?

A

Linked to specific sports, often awarded in schools. Level 1 is open to 14 and up. Level 2 or the Community Sports Leaders Award can then be taken aged 16 and up.

A

Run by NGBs and used to test and reward students. Common ones include the Athletics and gymnastics scheme where students can work towards bronze, silver and gold awards.
