A
Crush injuries (MVC, WRI)
Viral infections
Cocaine, heroin, amphetamines
Long distance runners and military recruits
Electric shock
Malignant hyperthermia
Status epilepticus
2
Q

What is the disease interchangable with

A

myoglobinuria

3
Q

What is the pathology of Rhabdo

A

Rapid breakdown of muscle that causes the release of intracellular contents into extracellular space and bloodstream

4
Q

What are the manifestations

A

Muscle pain, muscle weakness, dark urine

increased levels of myoglobin, creatine kinase, K+

5
Q

What gives the urine its coca cola appearance

A

myoglobin in the urine

6
Q

because the excessive amount of protein hits the kidney it causes kidney damage resulting in

A

increased potassium
decreased calcium
metabolic acidosis

7
Q

What is an example of a scenario where large amounts of intracellular components from the damaged tissue can cause kidney damage

A

relieving a crushing injury

8
Q

Whats the treatment

A

high fluid intake

9
Q

Why is high fluid intake the treatment

A

because the increased fluid helps push the excessive amounts of protein out of the body so they don’t clog up the kidney and form casts
