  • Wrote THE PRINCE= a book that talked about how rulers gained power
  • He believed in tricking his enemies and others only for the good of the state
  • Wasn’t concerned how with what was actually and morally right but instead with what was effective politically

  • Created by Christian humanists (For example Erasmus) and non religious ideas, people who judged the Catholic Church, also by humanism…
  • 95 theses of Martin Luther also caused it since he rejected several teachings of the Church

A
  • Dutch Renaissance Humanist teacher and theologian
  • wrote many books for the Catholic Church
  • called for Reform
  • member of the Catholic Church his whole life
  • kept distance from Martin Luther
  • He believed that the Roman Catholic Church needed to reform it’s corrupt and superstitious behavior
  • Thought that the Catholic Church was more concerned with it’s wealth than helping men find god, etc…

  • a set of ethics about how people should live and act
  • people who believe this=humanists
  • educated in the “humanities”
  • started in Ancient Greece
  • study of the value of humans related to funding one’s talent, science, art, history, literature, but not religion

  • allowed ppl to share large amounts of info. Quickly and in huge numbers
  • caused things drastically changed in Society during the Renaissance time period
  • still important today because without it we wouldn’t have books, magazines, or etc…
  • Invented by Johannes Gutenberg between the years of 1440-1450

What is the Spanish Inquisition?

A
  • established in 1498 by Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand the 11 of Argon and IsaBella the 1st of castle
  • intended to maintain Catholic Inquisition which was under papal Control
  • became the most substantive of three different infestations of=wider Inquisition= around 150,000 were prosecuted for various offenses during the 3 centuries of the duration of the S.I out of which 3,000 out of 5,000 were executed
  • established on Nov. 1st 1478
  • disbanded 15 of July, 1834

A
  • translated the Bible to Herman and many other languages
  • German professor of theology
  • began to question the Church for selling indulgences
  • rejected several teachings of the Catholic Church
  • taught that salvation and consequently eternal life are not earned by good deeds but are only received as free Gifts from God
