If everyone was religious there would be no racism. Give reasons for and against.

A

They say that God created us all in his image and so we are all equal.
Treat others as you would like to be treated is in all religions.
There would still be different cultures and people would argue over that.
There have been holy wars where people have fought each other because of race.

Explain how Britain became a multi-ethnic society.

A

Britain was first populated by Danes, Romans, Celts and Saxons. They all became part of the ancestry.
Britain has offered asylum to french protestants, russian Jews and Jews escaping from Hitler.
The empire became the commonwealth and people were encourages to come here when we had jobs to fill or wars to fight. These were people from west Africa, the caribbean and pakistan.
Joining the EU meant people from Europe came here.

Why do Catholics promote racial harmony?

A

“For God does not show favouritism Romans 2:11” If he has no favourites then why should we.
God made us all equally and in his image. We are all equal and should all be treated the same.
“We are all brothers and sisters in Christ “ ST Paul. The church works for the common good. We should work together for the good of everyone.
Pope John Paul wrote”racism is a sin against the message of Christ.

What does the government do to surpport community cohesion?

A

Community cohesion is taught in schools and OFSTED mark them on this meaning children know how to work with other people
It gives money to groups that work for community cohesion.
The crime and disorder act allows maximum penalties when there was racial or religious motivation.
Ministers and politicians from all ethnic backgrounds are appointed so there is a true representation of ethnic background in parliament.

What does the Catholic Church do to help asylum seekers?

A

Parishes have set up legal advice clinics to help immigrants from a legal point of view.
Parishes are providing masses in different languages other than English so they can continue to worship and keep the faith.
A ministry of welcome is created by giving language classes, leaflets in their language and essential equipment.
The office for refugee policy is run by Catholics who decide the church policy so experts make the right choice and so that no one contradicts each other.

Why does the church help asylum seekers?

A

The parable of the sheep and goats said we must feed the hungry and house the homeless. Asylum seekers don’t often have food or a house so we should try and help them.
The golden rule says we must treat others as we would want to be treated. Jesus said it so we follow it and we would want help if we needed asylum.
Jesus came to “serce not be served”. He is the Christian role model so we should do what he did and serve people.
In the parrible of the sheep and goats Jesus said”what ever you do to the least of my brothers, so you do unto me”. We must show our love for Jesus by helpping those who need it,like asylum seekers.

A

In the reformation there were Jews, Catholics, protestants and non-conformists.
There has always been religious freedom so people can practise the religion they want.
Different religions have come from the common wealth
It has been a human right to practise your religion.

What are the exculsivist attitudes to other religions?

A

A view held by evangelical protestants.They respect other religions but Christianity is the only faith. With the whole truth as they have Jesus which is the son of God.
“I am the way,truth and life. No one comes to the farther except through me.”is what Jesus said to prove it. They encourage other people to convert.

What do inclusivists think about other religions?

A

Held by most Catholics. All religions look for God and have some of the truth but only Christianity has all of it. They respect other religions. The Catechism says”the church has an obligation…to evangelise all men”848. They help people evangelise by spreading the gospel message.

What do pluralists think about other religions?

A

Held by liberal protestants. All religions are equal and are different ways of finding and expressing faith in the same one God. “There are many rooms in my fathers house”

All societies should be multi-faith societies. Give reasons for and against.

A

It gives Catholics a chance to evangelise other religions.
It gives evangelical protestants a chance to convert others.
It gives people the chance to join a religion that works for them.
Against.
People will argue over what is the better religion.
If there are many, people will think there is no true religion and not have any faith.
There will be larger religious communities as people will all be of the same faith.

Name problems caused by raising children a multi-faith socity?

A

In a multi-faith society children are brought up in there parents religion but then have to chose when they grow up.
Children are less likely to find a religion that suits them as they don’t know much about them.
A child might think that they are betraying there parents if they change religion.

What are the problems caused by conversion in multi-faith societys?

A

People don’t know if they are in the true faith, as other religions try and convert them.
People will go against other faiths as they say that theirs is not true.
People will be discriminated if they don’t join there religion.

What are the problems caused by interfaith marriages in multi-faith societies?

A

The couple won’t know what to teach the children.
They don’t know what ceremony to have for the wedding.
The grandparents would want grandchildren of there faith and would feel their children betrayed the religion.

How do special groups promote community cohesion?

A

National groups such as the interfaith network help promote community cohesion and relations between people of different faiths. They members include Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus.
There are special groups in towns and cities that promote cohesion in smaller parishes.
They focus on the similarities between faiths and not the differences. For example Christians Jews and Muslims all believe in Moses and Abraham.

How can raising children promote community cohesion?

A

Teaching RE in schools makes children respect other faiths.
Protestants and Jews teach children both faiths so they can later make their own choice.
All main religions support the teaching of all reigions.

A

There are special ceremonies that combine aspects of Christianity and Judaism.
Arch bishops have created guidelines to help on inter faith-marriage.
In schools parents are supported when it comes to raising children.

How have attitudes to women changed?

A

Contraception has meant that women are being employed as they don’t have to take time off because of the children.
When Margret Thatcher became prime minister it proved that women could take charge.
Campaigners like the sufregets tried to get women the vote and that changed opion.
During WWII women did mens jobs and proved there were as capable.

Why do catholics not let women become priets?

A

The priest is meant to represent Jesus and he was a man, so where his disciples.
They are generally equal but have different roles. They could educate children.
It is a tradition in the Catholic Church to have male priests. They like tradition.
St Paul “women shouldn’t speak in Church.”
“Each of the two sexes is an image of the power and tenderness of God, with the equal dignity , through in a different way.

Why Doesn’t the evangelical church let women become priests?

A

Women are inferior to men.
In the bible man were created first and woman. She was created to act as his helper.
They follow the tradition of the bible and in the bible, men have always been in charge.
St Paul said “women shouldn’t speak in church”

A

Man and women were both made on the same day so are equal.

A

Less wars and conflicts as people understand the accept the differences between races.
The culture is in riched.
Society can progress better if new perspectives and ideas are shared.

A

Different cultures will have different views on different practises. Some may be vegetarian and others not, causing conflict.
People may blame people of a different culture for things.
People may not want to share things.
People form ethnic minorities may not get a say in the way things are run.
People might not feel at home in a place.
People might want to meet others of the same culture but can’t.

What are he effects of discrimination and racism?

A

If people feel they are being unfairly treated by society they may try and cut them selves off form that society or work against.
Racism and discrimination causes the rise of racist groups like the BNP who encourage divisions between different ethnic groups in society.
It can cause people to kill to stop society going against them. July 7 bombings.
People from minority groups turn to crime as they don’t see a way they can take part in society.

A vote was made to decide if she should be priest.
She was more down to earth.
She engages with the clergy.
