Describe the insignia for POs?

A

The collar devices- THey have a silver chevron and gold chevrons. In order to figure out what rank, think of it as the shield counts as 3 paygrades and then a chevron counts as 1 paygrade. Ie having a chevron and a shield is E4(3+1), having 3 chevrons and a shield is E6 (3+3).

Q

WHats an E4 called?

A

3rd class PO.

14
Q

What are the PO LEFT sleeve insignia components and how do we tell their ranks

A

There is a white crow and then chevrons underneath it. To calculate the rank then have the CROW represent 3 paygrades (just like the shield on the collar device) and each chevron represents 1 pay grade. So a crow with 3 chevrons would be an E6 (PO First class)

Its the white hat, for Junior Enlisted (E1-E6) it has a CG Emblem with crisscrossed anchors. For E7-E9 it is replaced with an anchor. For Junior Officers O1-O4 it will have an Eagle. For Senior Officers they will have “Oak Leaves” on the brim of their Combo Cover. Once you make flag officer (O7-O10) you get 2 rows of Oak Leaves

Is the thin blue cloth cap. If you are E1-E3 rank you just wear a CG Emblem. Once you make E4-E6, you wear a shield with Garrison.

17
Q

What are the Senior Petty Officer sleeve and collar devices.

A

For the left sleeve insignia it would have a white crow, with either one (E8) or 2 (E9) stars on top of the crow. THere is also a gold ‘rocker” which is the curved gold line attached to the top chevron, and there will be three gold chevrons underneath.

For collar devices for senior Petty Officer there is a silver shield with gold anchor and with 1 (E8) or 2 (E9). E7 through E9 and the MCPOCG wear a cover device that matches their collar device on both the combo and garrison cover.
