Friedson (1973) definition of professionalisation
A process by which an organisation, usually with a special competence, concerned with quality of its work and benefits to society, obtains exclusive rights about how performed.
The profession becomes organised through its professional body. It provides governance, develops its people and promotes good practice. It serves professional interests of members and upholds the highest ideals in management and people development.
