1
Q

Name the landforms that are formed with plate movement.

A
  • Ocean ridge
  • Rift Valley
  • Deep-sea trenches
  • Island arcs
  • Young fold mountains
  • Volcanoes.
2
Q

Give one example of an ocean ridge.

A
  • Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
3
Q

Give one example of a rift valley.

A
  • East African rift valley
4
Q

Give one example of a sea trench.

A
  • Marina Trench.
5
Q

Give one example of Island arcs.

A

-Tonga islands.

6
Q

Give one example of young fold mountains.

A
  • Rockies (Canada)

- Himalayas(Asia)

7
Q

What is ridge push?

A
  • The result of gravity acting down the slope of the ridge. This is also known as gravitational sliding.
8
Q

What is slab pull?

A

-Due to the pushing of the subducting plate against the overriding plate, there is frictional resistance that gives rise to both shallow and deep earthquakes in subduction zones.

9
Q

What causes a hotspot?

A
  • A concentration of radioactive elements below the crust causs a hot spot to develop fgrom this a plum of magma rises to eat into the plate above. Forming flattish volcanoes, referred to have shield volcanoes.
10
Q

Name one volcanic event you have studied.

A
  • The eruption of Mt Nyiragongo, Congo January 2002.
  • Associated with the African Rify Valley.
  • The main crate of the volcano is 250 m deep, two kilometers wide and often contians a lava lake.
  • It has erupted 30 times since the ninteenth century.
  • It is repsponcible for 40 per cent of Africas recorded volcanic activity.
  • The lava is very fluid. Traveling at 90 kilometres per hour.
