Posture

The correct way the body is held with elongated spike and shoulders back

How to improve posture

Improved through pliés in the mirror, keeping the back straight and bottom tucked under.
Improved over time by deepening the pliés and performing in various foot positions

Alignment

The correct placement of body parts in relation to other body jets to create lines

How is alignment improved

Performing arabesque in the mirror, lining the arm with the opposite foot. Increase tilt to the floor by maintaining alignment of the hand and foot

Balance

The ability to maintain steadiness in a held position

How to improve balance

Increasing core strength through sets of 30 sit ups 3 times a week. Increase the amount of sit ups to 50

Co-ordination

The ability to move multiple body parts simultaneously

How to improve coordination

Rehearsal of short phrases that use multiple body parts such as arm swings plus use of torso. Increase number of body parts used in rehearsed phrases

Control

The ability to start and stop movement, change direction and hold a shape efficiently

Increasing core strength through sets of 30 sit ups 3 times a week... increase to 50 sit ups

The range of movement available at a joint

How to improve flexibility

Performing straddle stretches held for 10 seconds each 3 times a week. Deepening the stretch by lowering head or body to ground

Mobility

The range of movement in a joint; the ability to move fluently form action to action

How to improve mobility

Performing shoulder rolls, adding the elbows and arm circles every day. Enhance the energy of the rolls and linking them fluidly

Strength

The ability of the muscles to withhold or resist a force

How to improve strength

Performing 20 press-ups 3 times a week. Increase to 50 press-ups

Stamina

The ability to maintain levels physical and mental energy over time
